Pre Drill Inspection Programme
- Locate Assembly Points, checking all access.
- Locate Fire Alarm Panel & check its service records also with the Emergency Lighting System.
- Talk to Fire alarm company about running alarm test. (time & cost)
- Check the "Fire Record Log Book" in relation to Previous Fire Drills & Fire Safety Training.
- Check the "Fire Action" and escape route signage.
- Check all stairwells and escape routes for accessibility, clearance, emergency lighting and
signage.
- Check that the exits leading to the "Assembly Points" are clear and usable.
- Meet with Fire Wardens and Employer discuss any particular rules / preferences for the
premises to be evacuated.
- Forward a report on the inspection with recommendations, if necessary.
The Fire Drill
- Notify the fire brigade that a drill is taking place.
- Sound the alarm taking a note of the exact time and check all alarm horns.
- Check with the Fire Wardens at each Assembly Point that all staff and visitors are present.
- Note the time taken to complete the evacuation drill and the checklist is completed,
accordingly.
- Have the Fire Alarm silenced and reset and inform Fire Wardens the building is safe to re-enter.
- Discuss with the Fire Wardens and Employer how the exercise went and how it can be
improved.
- Oversee or make a brief report entry into the Fire Record Log Book.
